"Winter" in Kansas City

Well, according to the calendar it's Winter.  It's hard to tell by any other means this season.  Today is January 25.  So far this season here in Kansas City, we have had an official total of 0.4 inches of snow.  And that was spread out over two "snow events".  And furthermore, temperatures have been consistently above normal.  Many, many days in the upper 30s, 40s, and 50s.  Very few days in the 20s.

I love Winter.  I love cold weather and snow.  Give me a season where it doesn't get above 40 between Nov. 15 and March 1, throw in lots of snow, and I'm good.

The last two Winters here we had over 30 inches of snow each season.  Where are you Old Man Winter?  Is it because I restocked the firewood?

It's looking like we'll be into February with less than a half inch of snow.  Maybe we'll finally get a snowstorm next month.  Or, we'll get one of those mid-March huge, heavy snows...

Thus endeth the Wintry Lament.

  1. It was nice having two years of a white christmas, but to be honest, I don't mind the break. I was able to play catch with a baseball this afternoon with my son it was so mild. I agree that living in KC we know that the weather can change on a dime. I'm sure we will get a big one at some point.

  2. Living in NC, I have little hope for ANY winter when even my northern friends are missing winter. sigh.
Also, thanks for this site. My daughter was thrilled to be able to listen to the Christmas music of her childhood, the Readers Digest Joyous Music for Christmastime. I still have and play my albums...
    Thanks from Pat in NC

  3. You're welcome Pat - thanks for visiting, and please come back often!

Yesterday, Jan 30, we hit 67 degrees in KC. Today is near 60 again. Still holding at an official snow total of 0.4 inches for the season, and nothing in the forecast. I guess the bright side is that my daughter, in her first winter as a driver, has not had to deal with snow and ice on the roads.

  4. Hey, Bingle -

    Long-time lurker...first-time poster.

In Chicago, the high today was also 60 and we've only seen two real snowfalls; both were in the 3-6 range...but it's all gone today.

I'm the type that goes for a white Christmas but is easily happy if it's gone by New Year's Day!

P.S.: Thanks for the great site. It's nice to know there's fellow geeks like me that love their music old school for The Holidays! Keep up the great work!!
